Magemono bent-wood craft has always been used in traditional ware like bento boxes, traditional meal trays and a range of functional containers for shrine rituals.   But the Shibatas never shy away from turning them into functional objects that fit modern-day use.  This is one way for them to sustain their craft when young generations do no show interest in apprenticing and succeeding, and the craft is being forgotten .

The coasters are hand-crafted one-by-one, and do not take any less time to make than large bentwood containers as they are even more delicate.   Get the set to add warmth to your coffee setting or used them as little trays for tea-time confectionary.

Whatever form these new objects take, the aesthetics and function of bent cedar wood and sakura bark remains unchanged.   It is simply iconic.
