Handcrafted bamboo spatula is an essential kintsugi tool.
Time to get some real tools and say "NO" to off-the-shelf BBQ bamboo skewers in overpriced kintsugi hobby kits.
We developed and handmade an assortment of bamboo spatulas just for kintsugi craft use. Bamboo is the best natural material for small spatulas with its carvable and bendable properties. Each one is hand-cut and hand-carved, and bent using slow heat.
Mastering spatula use is essential in lacquer and kintsugi crafts. The wood spatulas are for blending and moving the materials around your glass palette. The bamboo spatulas are used to apply and sculpt bonding mixture on your pottery piece. We made the flexible curve tip to help you push the bonding paste onto curve surfaces and into fine cracks. The flat spatula is great as a scoop for dry powder, or to sculpt and flatten sabi / kokusou just like icing a cake.
We purposely leave the spatula tip 1/2 mm thicker than usual, for those who prefer a more sturdy tool. And since everyone has their own preference and hand pressure, we encourage you modify your own spatula with a cutting knife and some sandpaper. The more your carve them thinner, the more pliable the tip will become. So, adjust according to your needs. We actually made a video about adjusting and carving the spatulas. (free-member sign up)
Bamboo is durable, flexible and all-natural material. It will patine as you use them over time. You won't find such beautifully crafted small spatulas in any store.
