This is the iconic 3-tier square Japanese stack-box wooden bento box, commonly used for new year and celebratory meals such as "Osechi".  The signature of Issochi style is the unique mixed-use of Cedar and Hinoki Cypress.   Issochi-style bento box is also more hearty and hefty. Great as picnic bento box, or use it creatively for any storage needs: snacks, small parts, cosmetics, accessories.
 
Made with 5mm bent hinoki wood, with a 1.5cm thick cedar lid. This is especially suitable for restaurant use or if you are the heavy-handed kind.
 
What is Osechi meal?
Foodies will love this, the iconic tier-ed square boxes are for special Japanese osechi course meal.  They are usually in 2, 3 or 5 tiers because 4 is an unlucky number.   We have chosen the "perfect number" 3 tier box for you.  Osechi meal is commonly served in special and celebratory occasions and New Year. 
 
Top tier is typically for "celebratory" food and appetizer:  sweet chestnuts, black beans, fish roes etc.. all symbolizing health and good fortune. 
 
Middle-tier is usually partitioned for a Grilled dish焼き物 like sea bream, yellowtail or prawns; and a Pickled dish 酢の物 like red-white radish with vinegar.  Each also with auspicious meaning.
 
Base-tier is usually for Boiled food or Stew 煮物 like lotus roots, kelp and yam stew.

The outside is protected with food-safe urethane from wear-and-tear, and brings out the difference of the 2 wood colors.  The inside is left in raw wood finish, retaining the lasting aroma of cedar and cypress.  While helping your food to balance moisture, so rice and bread can stay fluffy.
