Ko Kutani ware with Gintsugi Silver Repair - PLATE C

For the fans of Imari and Kutani Japanese porcelain ware out there!  Take a break from Kintsugi gold.

This small persimmon-shape porcelain plate is one of the set of 3 small plates repaired by Komatsu.  They were found at an antique shop and were identified as Old Kutani ware (Kokutani).  She repaired them with real silver, and they look simple, modern and minimal with a special wabi-sabi essence.   Plate C is especially intricate with the cracks.

When it comes to Kutani and Imari/Arita porcealin, one thinks of the exquisite underglaze and overglaze painting that carries centuries of heritage since 15th century.  At a time when commoners can only afford to use wood and earthenware, these fine porcelain were produced for the upper class and exported to European royalties.

It is rare to see a plain white porcelain piece without all the ornate paintings, they are out there, just rare.

Kokutani 古九谷 (Old Kutani) is from early Edo period, 17th century.  Produced in Arita region, usually as colored painted work, but also includes celadon and white porcelain (like this plate).

We hope someone can take the 3 small plate as a set, so the three can stay together and be passed down.  But in any case, Ms. Komatsu also agreed to sell them separate.  This listing is for Plate C.

They make the best one-of-a-kind gift that you cannot find anywhere else.
